In 2022, with significant changes afoot in the world, Future Majority and Strategic Victory Fund longed to understand what was happening in America’s Heartland – how Americans in the small towns and rural communities of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota were thinking and feeling in order to understand how they saw themselves, their country, and the world at large.
The work was to uncover a deeper understanding of what’s going on below the surface in America’s Heartland to identify what they want, what they need, and how the country can better serve them.
In this study, we explored how small town and rural Americans perceive the federal, state, and local levels of government, how they are looking into the future, what matters to them, and how they think about issues that count. What follows is a revealing look into what drives America’s Heartland.
